Episode 28: Throttling The Internet (This Beer is a Beer)

Our second attempt at this episode, the first lost to real technological failure.  Unfortunately our first attempt was our most bestest podcast ever.  Version 2.0 of this episode is simply more of the same.  Sorry.

In Version 2.0 we discuss licensing and regulation of the Internet and other things that can be regulated, or not.

The Beer:  BB Burgerbrau Lager from the Czech Republic

P.S. The Damned United is quite a good view, even if you have no interest in English Football.

Episode 21: Things That Didn’t Fail In 2009 (Part 1)

We decide to add to the plethora of Top 10 lists that have crowded into cyberspace. Aren’t you all very lucky?

Each of us came to the table with our own list of the ten best things or events of 2009.  Our choices, listed in no particular order except 1-10, contained albums, books, movies, TV shows, songs, sporting events and video games.  Odd that no political achievements made the list.  I suspect there is a future list for such real world events.

Due to the nature of our lengthy discussions, out Top 10 show is presented in two parts.

Dan’s 10 (part 1):

  • 10, Fresh Kills by Bill Loefelm (book)
  • 9,  “When you were shouting at the Devil” . . . by Zimmer’s Hole (song)
  • 8,  “Monolith” by Century (song)
  • 7,  The Hangover (movie)
  • 6,  Batman: Arkham Asylum (video game)

Jim’s 10 (part 1):

  • 10, Battlestar Galactica season 4 (TV)
  • 9,  Forza 3 (video game)
  • 8,  Downtown Owl by Chuck Klosterman (book)
  • 7,  Backstreets magazine / Bruce Springsteen 2009 tour coverage (web & print)
  • 6,  Beatles Remasters (albums)

Numbers 1-5 to be presented in part 2.

The beer for this half courtesy of Fire Mountain Brew House in Carlton Oregon.  We sample their new Oregon Pale Ale.

Episode 19: Beer-infused Chicken, Man!

As you can tell from this episode’s title we’re talkin’ music again.  It’s been a dull year in music (and TV, and Movies, and  . . . hell, all the arts have been lacking), but some recent strong releases offer a welcome respite from the dullness.

The beer for this one is Widmer’s widely available Drop Top Amber.

Episode 16: To Be Edgy and Relevant, or Not.

After a few weeks off, we have a congenial conversation about subjects that aren’t the source of angst and anger.  Not sure how discussing bad NFL performances led to Late Night Television and The Rolling Stones, but that’s what happened.  We chase it all with a large bottle of Duchesse de Bourgogne.  Enjoy.

Episode 12: The Devil and eMusic

eMusic is (was?) a place where music downloading is done right, an indie oasis with a large selection and no DRM, that caters to real music collectors. Enter Sony/BMG. In July eMusic will add Sony’s back catalog and significantly raise prices to accomodate this.  We argue the merits of such a move.

Our beer for this episode is a Trade Route (Laughing Buddha) Ginger Pale Ale.  It’s labeled Laughing Buddha, we mistakenly note that Laughing Buddha is now Trading Post and rant that Laughing Buddha was a better name . . . anyway, it’s Trade Route Brewing now, better than Trading Post, but less fun than Laughing Buddha.

Episode 10: Things That Dont Fail #1

Do not include us in Things That Don’t Fail as we reach new heights in failure by cracking the one hour mark for this episode.  Too Long.  Too Boring.  Call it what you will, but it is The Failure Option.

Now all that said, don’t hold our failure against the things reviewed in this episode.  We discuss the merits of various specific video games, comic books, television shows and albums (in that order, so you can skip to the part that interests you most).  We tackle these items while drinking some Allagash White beer.  We will do better next time.
