Episode 25: More Hope, Beer, and Naked Women
In Episode 24 we took the Obama administration to task for their 1st year performance. We taped that the day before The State of the Union speech and several days before President Obama’s fascinating Q&A with the Republican Congressional Caucus. It was as if he had heard Episode 24 and was addressing our concerns. So we listened to what he had to say, and we’re updating our thoughts from the previous episode. Now, how all that ends up with talk of drinking beer with naked women in front of the fireplace, I have no idea.
Our beer this week: Imperial Choklat Stout from Southern Tier Brewing in Lakewood, N.Y.

Episode 24: The Supreme Court . . . Ah, Those Guys Are So Funny.
It is the night before Obama’s first State of the Union address and we choose to declare the end of the world as we know it. Who wouldn’t, what with recent Supreme Court decisions, recent Massachusetts elections, recent Obama policy announcements echoing those of his Presidential rival’s, and a recent and very boring NFL post season, that may show the sport for what it is, 11 minutes of action surrounded by commercials. I mean, what’s not to rant about?
We drink Blue Moon Brewing’s Full Moon Winter Ale while ranting.
Now, the key statement here is that we taped this the night before the State of the Union. So, a quick poll:
- We were way off base in our assertions
- We were correct as usual
- Screw polls, polling, and pollsters.

Episode 23: A Preponderance of Suck
Posted by Jim in Beers, Podcasts, Politics, health care on January 6, 2010
Well, as you can tell by the title we spend our time on this show looking back at 2009 and all the things our politicians accomplished. After a brutal 2008 and sweeping changes in the American leadership we expected a little more from 2009 than what we got. Was there any upside? Where’s the change? Where’s the beef? Where’s my beer?. . .
. . . here it is. A Baltic Thunder porter from Victory Brewing in Downington, PA.

Episode 21: Things That Didn’t Fail In 2009 (Part 1)
Posted by Jim in Beers, Books, Music, Podcasts, Reviews, Sports, comic books, television, video games on December 15, 2009
We decide to add to the plethora of Top 10 lists that have crowded into cyberspace. Aren’t you all very lucky?
Each of us came to the table with our own list of the ten best things or events of 2009. Our choices, listed in no particular order except 1-10, contained albums, books, movies, TV shows, songs, sporting events and video games. Odd that no political achievements made the list. I suspect there is a future list for such real world events.
Due to the nature of our lengthy discussions, out Top 10 show is presented in two parts.
Dan’s 10 (part 1):
- 10, Fresh Kills by Bill Loefelm (book)
- 9, “When you were shouting at the Devil” . . . by Zimmer’s Hole (song)
- 8, “Monolith” by Century (song)
- 7, The Hangover (movie)
- 6, Batman: Arkham Asylum (video game)
Jim’s 10 (part 1):
- 10, Battlestar Galactica season 4 (TV)
- 9, Forza 3 (video game)
- 8, Downtown Owl by Chuck Klosterman (book)
- 7, Backstreets magazine / Bruce Springsteen 2009 tour coverage (web & print)
- 6, Beatles Remasters (albums)
Numbers 1-5 to be presented in part 2.

Episode 20: A Wee Dram
Posted by Jim in Podcasts, Whiskies, health care on November 29, 2009
No beer this week. In honor of our 20th episode, we break out some tiny glasses and pour some expensive single malt Whisky. The whisky of choice is McCarthy’s, distilled in a very small batch by Clear Creek Distillery here in Portland. A discussion on the finer points of Whisky ensues, though I’m sure we’re often wrong in what we say about said drink. And then . . . logically we transition and talk about the Swine flu. Brilliant stuff I tell ya.
Oh, and since we’re talkin, about the Scottish, single malt varieties, we do spell it Whisky. If we were talkin’ American or Canadian blendids, we’d spell it Whiskey. Just so you know.
